Friday, Pick up/arrival

Enjoy the afternoon getting settled in and climbing the lighthouse to get a lay of the land and checking out the lighthouse museum, followed by a walk along the Southernmost stretch of coastline in Africa and taking an iconic photo at the southernmost point of Africa, and try to spot where the Indian and Atlantic ocean meet.

Struisbaai to De Mond (13km/26km round trip) we set off along the beach toward the river mouth. The walk is relatively easy; it is flat and the beach doesn’t slope too much. Making this trip at low tide is key. On arrival, you can expect thousands of “sterretjies”, flamingos and a host of other bird species flocking around. Here you can enjoy a picnic, chill out and explore the area! Roll down some sand dunes and swim in the river! The wild and untamed beauty of the coastline is incomparable to any other coastal stretch. Struisbaai boasts with having one of the longest coastlines in South African stretching over 26km from Struisbaai to Waenhuiskrans and onwards.
Struisbaai to Waenshuiskrans (26km) We set off along the beach toward the river mouth, this marks the halfway point and is a great spot to take a few minutes’ break, try to spot some dolphins and maybe grab something to munch on. After crossing the river, we carry on along the beach to the little town of Waenhuiskrans. Romans beach offers sweet relief, a swim in the ocean followed with lunch at the local hotel or if you are interested in some home cooking and a more rustic setup, Weleens place, marks the end of the journey. I would advise a medium/high fitness level for this route, you must be comfortable with being on your feet for 6 hours (includes breaks), although the sand is packed for most of the route, it does exhaust the legs.
Spookdraai route
Suiderstrand to Brandfontein is a 12km route along the beach will take you approximately 3-3.5 hours (including breaks and photo ops and rolling down a few dunes). This route is filled with the rich history of South Africa

Don’t feel like walking/hiking?

Drive to Waenhuiskrans for a yummy lunch and to go explore the caves and the monuments along the coast.
